Can you stay in the room while a hotel maid cleans it?

I’ve never known the answer to this, but for some reason I always thought you had to be out of a room in order for the maid to clean it. If the noise from the vacuum isn’t going to bother me, should I leave? I would generally be sitting at a desk, not still in the bed.

I leave a tip either way, I’m just not sure what the proper etiquette is.

  1. The room is yours so you can stay in it, I do it sometimes and there is nothing wrong with it. If you’re in her way, she just might not vacuum or clean that spot.

  2. sure you can if you want but she might do a better job if your not in the room.

unless you want her to clean you could just get more towels and tp and tell her she doesn’t need to clean the room.

yes a tip is nice especially if you’ll be staying more than one day/night.

she gets paid the same amount no matter how many rooms need cleaning.
