How to fix a flooded basement?

Our basement flooded AGAIN this is the 5th time in the last 10 years! Anyways, one of our hoses leaked into the basement and almost half of it is soaked about 1/2 inch the way up… We have very expensive leopard print carpet that we have been able to save the last few times, but now we think it’s been through enough. Anyways, to get to the point. Its fathers day on Sunday and i really don’t want my dad to be spending the rest of his week cleaning up the mess. Is there any easy affordable way to fix this? In the past we hired people who ripped up the carpet, vacuumed the water and rented large fans to blow under the carpet. We’re gonna get new carpet padding but any tips or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

thx sooooo much for reading this and PLEASE help!

  1. If you want a fast fix, I’m afraid I can’t help you. You’ve probably already purchased new hoses, so I won’t insult your intelligence with that suggestion.
Long-term fix: The first thing you need to do is build up the ground around your foundation, so the water will drain away from the house. Check for any cracks in your basement walls. If you have any, working from the outside won’t do much good. Tie a weight to a piece of string about ten feet long. Hold it against the top of your basement wall. If it isn’t flush to the wall, your walls are sagging in. You’ll need to hire a contractor, who specializes in basements, to install wall anchors. They will also install channels around the leaking walls, leading to a central sump pump. Not cheap, but well worth it.

  2. remove the carpet it will help save so much time!!! 🙂
Use Rubber flooring tiles, those rubber tiles are removable and they are super easy to maintain… ALSO, the carpet being removed will help with mold and a stink…. I hope this is somewhat helpful! 🙂 Get rid of the carpet – just trash it! Im sorry if this is totally useless!
