If you were removing/putting on the attachments that go directly on the front of the machine [NOT on the end of the hose] (various kinds of strange brushes, flexible shaft Handi Butler, etc) instead of the regular rotating brush for carpets, there is a switch on the lower front of the machine that these attachments activate when they are installed (some of them need the motor to run slower to work right). This switch might be damaged (the quite often get dirt or water in them and get corroded or stuck) or maybe the attachemnt is not fully engaged in position. I’m not sure if all models have this switch or not, but worth looking for and scrutinizing. It could also be that the step switch in the back just happened to get busted, or the cord is loose where it connects to the machine.
