Great, quick clean up!, July 6, 2013

We just installed a vinyl floor that looks like wood in our kids room. I didn’t want it to get a tacky feel from mopping which I often get from my swiffer wet jet in the kitchen, so I was really interested in this. I like the idea of a steam mop, but in the past they were almost $100 and since I don’t imagine needing to mop their floor often it seemed a little much. I was really excited to get this as I have many swiffer products that I love already. I did a test clean in the kids room and the kitchen and was surprised at how much dirt it got up, since I had just cleaned them both. The “open window” scent of the pad wasn’t bad. However I didn’t know before I bought it that the pad would be wet with cleaner. This wasn’t what I imagined it to be, I thought that it would clean with the steam and use a dry cloth to trap the dirt. I will try it with the swiffer dry sweep cloth and see how that works. I do like this product and think that the steam really helps it to get everything off the floor, I just really didn’t want to be using a cleaning solution on the new floor.

    Pros:
It has a nice long cord, I won’t have to change plugs.
It heats up quickly, and has an indicator light so you know it’s ready.
It really dissolves dirt and grim quickly without having to apply pressure, which is difficult when mopping.
The pad is disposable, so you don’t need to clean it.
It’s light and easy to maneuver.
It’s easy to put together and use.

    Cons:
I was looking for a chemical free cleaning method and the pads are wet with cleaner, just like the swiffer wet pads.
It makes steam to assist the wet pad, rather than clean on it’s own. It’s enough steam to make the pad hot and dissolve dirt and grim on the floor, but I don’t imagine it would be enough to clean on it’s own.
The tank doesn’t come off, so if you wanted to drain it before putting it away you would either have to use all of the water or turn the whole thing upside down.

    A Great Value, June 30, 2013

As one of the cheapest steam mops, this is definitely a budget buy. For the price though, you get great value. The Steamboost mop does a great job cleaning my floors and it’s very easy to use. A definite plus is that the cord is extra long.

You do have to press the trigger to activate the steam, which leads to hand cramps for large rooms. Also, the water reservoir is not detachable which makes filling it an minor inconvenience.

This product still deserves 4 stars for its low price, its ease of use, and the quality of the cleaning it performs.

The perfect cleaning solution for us, August 18, 2013

Douglas “Douglas” (San Diego, California) –

Let me preface this review by saying before I bought this I researched other product reviews and noticed the majority of them were written by people who got a free unit from the manufacturer, so I’m sure their reviews were skewed by the fact that they didn’t have to purchase it. I bought the Steamboost mop at full retail price at a local store.

Compared to a regular Swiffer Wetjet, it is no contest. The Steamboost is lighter, more maneuverable. The steam is ready in less than a minute, and if you go from one room to another and re-plug it in it’s available almost instantly.

Compared to a mop and bucket, it got our floors twice as clean in half the time. Also the floors dried much quicker. And it’s less of an elaborate production in filling up a bucket and having to dump out dirty water and cleaning wet mop heads.

As for costly refill pads, we just don’t use them. We used the 2 ones that come in the start pack and they do a good job, but it seems like they get dirty too quickly and don’t hold enough dirt. We bought a pack of terry cloth ribbed bar mop towels that fit perfectly around the mop head. Clip them in like a regular pad. We soak ours in a little Mrs. Meyer’s All Purpose Cleaner and water and then steam the floor. The bar mop towels are bleachable, so it’s cheaper, more environmentally friendly and reusable.

We have a cat so it’s nice to be able to have a cleaning solution that actually steams and sanitizes the floor. We used this equally well on hardwood, vinyl and tile. We were surprised how many times we would go over a “clean” area and the steam mop would just keep pulling up dirt.
