Why do my vacuum cleaner belts keep burning off?

I have a vacuum cleaner (Eureka 2961BVZ) that I bought a little less than a year ago, and every time I run it it smells like something’s burning, and it’s burned 2 bands in a very short time. Anyone know how I can fix this? Thanks!

  1. The roller may be binding, clogged with hair in the bearings, Another possibility is that you have the height adjustment set too low. It’ll cause the brush to bind, cause the belt to slip and burn , and will overheat and eventually burn out the motor.

  2. Is something else "stuck" in the vacuum cleaner so that the brushes are not rotating freely? Are you sure you have the correct size of band?

A quick look round the net at your model, and I’ve seen some pretty shoddy reviews of it–I guess it’s not terribly well regarded.

You might try finding the owner’s manual online and seeing if there’s any hints or tips in it to help you. Best of luck.
