nasty smell from vacuum?

Have upright Hoover, with Hipa filter on front. Vacuum is at least ten years old, has always worked fine. But air coming out has terrible odor. I have sprayed the flat spongy filter many times with Lysol, expecting it’s coming from that. It does solve problem for short while, but smell always returns.
Bag is okay, change it regularly, even before full. Not sure what to do.
I thot of sprinkling some baking soda into new bag before installing. But still think the filter is causing smell. Be as simple to just get new filter?

  1. I have dogs and they stink it is the filter it says every 3 months but i have to change mine every other so i buy the ones with febreeze in them you can also put some carpet powder in the bag.

  2. You can use carpet deodorizer (powder) to deodorize a vacuum.

Just sprinkle a generous amount of carpet deodorizer on the floor. The vacuum it up and leave it in the vacuum.

You can buy powdered carpet deodorizer at any grocery store.

    Hope this helps.

  3. Hi,
You don’t have to buy another filter. Simply take it out and soak it in some bleach. Should do the trick.
    Cheers
