Clean hair from shaggy carpet?

Hi,

I have a large (7’x12′) shaggy carpet in my dorm room. Over the year it has accumulated a lot of hair (but otherwise clean, no stains, etc.) and I want to know how I can get it out. The vacuum does nothing because the hair is really twirled around the hair. I tried duct tape once and it worked well, but it takes way too much time/tape. Does anyone have any tips or advice? Also, someone told me to take it to a laundromat. It’s too big, heavy and thick for anything like that.

Thanks!
Hi again, just a kind request to please read the problem: (1) I’ve already tried a vacuum and it doesn’t work and (2) I don’t need carpet cleaner since there are no stains, my issue is with hair. Thanks!!

  1. How to Clean Shag Carpet

Shag carpet adds charm and whimsy to any room, but it can be difficult to clean. Rollers and beater bars can tangle or break the fibers. Using the right equipment can keep you shag carpet looking great.

Step 1Vacuum the shag carpet with a straight suction canister vacuum. Don’t use a rotator beater vacuum. This can cause the fibers to break or become tangled.

Step 2If the carpet is extremely dirty, spray carpet cleaner and allow to sit on the carpet for ten minutes. Don’t scrub the carpet. This can cause the fibers to matte together.

Step 3Vacuum the carpet again to remove the carpet cleaner.

Step 4Rake the shag carpet with a shag rake. Allow the carpet to dry thoroughly, then rake a second time. It make be helpful to rake in one direction, then rake again in a line that is perpendicular to the first raking.

  2. I know you have a big area to clean, but I use a yellow plastic glove (used for dishes). I take my hand and keep pulling the hair to me. I comes up in nice piles. Hope it helped.
