If you want to do it for a science fair, then ok, but it would cost you more to buy parts for one in use in the home, than it would to just watch for one on sale at a store. Basically to build one for a science fair, you would need an electric motor, battery operated, some type of maybe PVC pipe for the feed tube, or wand, and a filtering device to keep sucked up objects from entering into the fan. A typical fan has a output (blowing side) and an input or “suction side”. The rest should be easy to figure out! 🙂

go to a vacuum shop and buy a ametek lamb motor, it is probablly 5.7 inches in diameter, if you mount it a piece of pvc or tube and then put a cloth bag from a royal model 4600 cannister vacuum it will probably just fit around the tube you could probably just fit an almost jeans thick material it would act as a bag use a cap for the tube as the opposite end and it would be pretty easy to glue a piece of tube ( a cap ) in the end. most vacuum shops would have a standard inch and a quarter vacuum hose well just be care full of the motor, id recess it into the tube and maybe put another cap over it leaving plenty of room for the exhaust. lining the inside of the tube around the motor will also help to reduce the noise.
