I bought this unit to use for light pick up on carpet, auto cleaning, and sucking up dead bugs!

My tests were done on 3 different occasions and and it always started with a full charge.

I have hard wood floor all throughout my home but I do have a small area rug underneath my computer chair to protect the surface.
I realized there tends to be much dirt and crumbs around the area so I tried using the floor attachment and lightly went over the surface (I did make sure it was on carpet setting). It did not have power to pick up anything and it just moved all the debris around.

I tried cleaning my car with the brush and crevice tool. The carpet area in the trunk was not cleaned at all using the brush tool and again, just moved the debris in the car. The crevice tool was useful and picked up majority of the things I wanted to but again, there were some failure with some.

I do not like to waste toilet paper, tissue paper etc for picking up dead bugs and this is something the vacuum does well.

Overall, I will be keeping this as I do like to clean my garage of dead bugs with this but for any other use I would definitely not recommend it.

I thought I had found the perfect cordless vacuum after reading the product description. However, after trying it out, (yes using a fully charged battery) it was clear this vacuum wasn’t going to work for me.

    Pros:
    1) Soft noise
    2) Lightweight

    Cons:
    1) This vac DOES NOT SUCK. My B & D dustbuster and Shark Pet Perfect hand vacs have far superior suction power to this one. I thought it may have to do with the length of the metal stick, but still same lack luster suction regardless if no attachment is used.
    2) The attachments are NOT universally adaptable on this machine. I’ve never heard of such a thing on a vacuum! The metal stick is only meant to attach the floor head. You CANNOT attach the crevice tool, pet hair brush, or nozzle brush to the metal stick extension!!! Huh? Why would Black & Decker limit the use of this product? I thought the extra metal stick was the big selling point vs it’s BDN2000. For me, it defeats the purpose of buying this product all together.
    3) I used this once and the minimal debris in the canister got stuck on one side of it. (due to limited sucking power) I had to stop using it at that point.
    4) The floor head is almost impossible to attach to the metal stick. It supposed to just slide into place and magically stay there. I needed someone with muscles to attach it for me. However, over time, I’m not too sure how secure the PLASTIC connection would remain because….wait for it….
    5) There is NO ACCESSORY CLIP to hold the plastic floor head in place! Yet, there is a hole in the metal stick where a clip could go if the floor head had been designed correctly. Surprisingly, ALL of the other attachments DO have accessory clips. So why cut corners on the “big selling point” with this model?
    6) When using the carpet selection, you can only move the stick one way. So you literally have to pick up the stick and place it in position after each stroke. It cannot move in the typical “back and forth” motion. Again, with no accessory clip, I cannot imagine the plastic floor head remaining secure over time.

The product concept is right on track. It would be great if the design and motor issues were addressed. I would try this vac again if they are fixed.

Despite some negative comments here and on the web, I am actually quite happy with it. Let’s break it down how this product scores:

Usage: It is a very portable device, with a very useful flexible hose. It’s meant for those few minutes clean up job so do not expect it to have suction power like a corded vacuum. It work very well for the purpose it is made for.

Worthiness : It is rather pricey compared to the lower end B&D 12v (FHV1200) which sells for half the price (USD 55). But what u get here is more powerful suction (pls see below for suction review) + a longer operation time (15mins). You also get more accessories, however I have the feeling I won’t be using the floor tool so it’s up to individual usage preference.

Suction: Do not rate it via the voltage power and expect the 20v version to have 60% more power than the 12v version, the suction power do not go up with the voltage ratings. I do not own the 12v model but I have tried it in the local shop, my guess is that the 20v version get 25-30% more suction power than the 12v model, or less… I cannot really gauge.

Will I recommend it? : Yes if you want the longer running operational time and you need the floor tool, and you want the best suction . No if you want to just vacuum a small area that can be done within 10 mins and you do not need the floor tool. The 12v one at half the price is better value if you do not need these extras features which is really not that crucial to get the cleaning job done.

Also pls note that the charging time for the 20v is 4-6 hrs, while the 12v is like 12 hrs or so … therefore, if u use it once a day the 12v model will not be a problem.

What I do not like: It is noisy (noisier than my corded Bosch), the brush and the inlet to the vacuum is too far apart making it quite ineffective in cleaning, the suction power drops when the floor tool with extended tube is used.
