Good suction but has one flaw, May 15, 2016

This Dustbuster hand vac has some nice power. It really sucks up dirt, corner fuzzies and crumbs very well.

I’m especially happy with how it picks up kitty litter off the floor. One of our cats runs, with turbo power, out of the litter box after she’s done. Almost like she is escaping something terrible. I understand her desire to quickly get away, as she usually does not cover her droppings in there. I would run away, too!

Anyway, she makes a terrible, scattered mess of kitty litter every time she uses the box. I had been just sweeping up after her but using this hand vac is much faster, easier and it does a better job.

This hand vac was easily mounted and lifts off the mount quickly and it’s always fast and easy to put back on. This came with screws and a mounting bracket, but the screws were flat head screws. We replaced those with some Phillips screws as we find it’s easier to later remove the screws and remount elsewhere if using Phillips screws. They also tighten stronger for us.

The hand vac has a couple accessories, which are attached to the hand vac – a brush and an extending wand. I love that they are attached, because I always seem to misplace accessories or they are never easily accessible and so I don’t use them. Plus, I will admit to being lazy and for quick jobs, I don’t want to go get them. Having the accessories as part of the hand vac is a great convenience for me.

While the accessories both work fine, there is a big flaw in the design of the extended wand. The wand pulls out fine and locks into place well. But, it’s near impossible for me to push the button in to put the extending wand away. The button wasn’t designed for someone with long nails or for someone without a lot of finger strength. There isn’t enough of the button available for me to push it down to unlock the wand. I can’t do, I’ve tried and tried. 🙁

So, when using the hand vac with the wand, I’m trying to not extend the wand out fully, so that it does not lock into place. But, sometimes it still locks into place and then I need to have someone else in the household push the button for me and put the wand back into the unit so I can store the hand vac. That’s frustrating. I’ve tried using a screwdriver to push the button in, but that hasn’t worked well for me, either.

I’ve had my sisters try to push the button and they have the same problem. We don’t all have long nails. Maybe we all have week thumbs?

The other buttons on the unit work fine and are easy to push. Since the extended wand is such a convenient tool and something I want to use each time I use this hand vac, it’s a big issue for me that I can’t push the button.

a Light-duty dustbuster with neat features that don’t make up for lack of power, June 5, 2016

I have an older B&D dustbuster, so I was thrilled to be able to try an updated one via the Vine program.

Unfortunately, this new model did NOT live up to my expectations.

    The good:
    ~ it’s light
~ you don’t have to pull the clunky battery off and plug it in with something else to charge it
    ~ the filter is washable
~ the handy crevice tool pulls out and lets you reach under couches & furniture
~ the handy brush tool that is attached and can be flipped up to use (but popped off really easily)

    The bad:
~ it doesn’t seem to hold a charge for very long
~ it takes a while to charge
~ it is VERY weak. Like other reviewers noted, it doesn’t seem to suck up small bits of grit
~ the collection container kept falling off in the midst of use
~ the on-off switch is exactly where your fingers rest while using it, so I kept accidentally turning it off
~ it does NOT like pet fur. I have two cats and a dog, so the dustbuster is a BIG tool in my fight against fur-bunnies

Overall, I would NOT recommend this model unless you just need it for very light duty. Hopefully they will give it more power in an update.
