Easy way to clean window screens?

Any tips for cleaning plastic mesh window screens?

Usually I just vacuum them and hose them off before I put them away in the fall, but last year I never got around to it and they spent the winter in the garage … and now they really need a good cleaning. I’m not sure what kind of cleaning product to use, or whether to use a sponge, a brush, or what.

I have a LOT of them to do and I’d like to get them installed today so I can open the windows (yay!) while it’s warm outside.

Thanks!

  1. Stand them up against a wall and pressure wash them with a pressure washer or a high pressure hose.

  2. Got a car wash brush? Lay them on the lawn, scrub them with the car wash brush and soapy water, rinse and then wash the other side.

    Works for me.

  3. I would recommend washing powder/clorox in hot water, a string mop and a sprayer nozzle attached to your hose. The bleach will clean all the debris and they smell clean. Good luck on your spring cleaning.
