Gravel vacuum for fish tank??!!?

Hi,
I recently got a gravel vacuum for my ten gallon fish tank. It’s a really simple one with just a tube thing and a hose for the water. I followed all the directions but I can’t quite get the hang of it. So you jerk the big tube part up and down while the water supposedly filters, but the water coming out is cleaner than everything in the tank. Am I supposed to be saving the water I take out and dumping what’s in the tank? Why is the water going out cleaner than the water inside? And how exactly does this work? If you can help that would be great!

  1. the water that’s coming out of the tank is NOT cleaner! it looks like it but it isn’t.
I’m not sure about the vacuum you got but if it’s the one i’m thinking you just do what you are doing and change the water. Dump the only water and add new tap water with conditioner in your tank. make sure to use the water conditioner though otherwise your fish will die.

  2. it is a gravel vac. you have to push it down into the grave and than lift it slowly and put it in a diff. spot it is to get all the fish poop off the bottom of the tank

  3. no,put the tube in the tank, let the hose rest in a bucket outside,if suction doesn’t occur,u may have to suck trough the hose end to start the process
