I’m wondering if someone can give me some tips on how to clean carpets. One of the rooms in my house has an absolutely hideous carpet and it will take more than an ordinary carpet cleaner to get it clean again. There are stains from things that have probably been spilled and just left there by the past owners of the house. They’re so bad that the carpet has gone hard there. So can anyone tell me what I can do to get rid of them? If I can’t find another way then I’ll have to hire a heavy duty carpet vacuum but I’d like to try something else before spending that much money. Thanks in advance for any help.

For the individual really bad spots try spot shot. I’ve used it for lots of things (including blood and red drinks) and always had great success. For the rest of the area you can try resolve high traffic foam. You just spray it on, scrub it in with a brush then vacuum it up when it dries.
put oxi clean directly on it and let is set. Then use hot water to clean it up with a carpet cleaning machine. I have been able to get up a lot of stains with this technique.
Since you have no idea what the stains are and it might be best if you don’t, it would be wise to get rid of the carpet. There’s no guarantee that it can be cleaned satisfactorily by any means.
WD-40 somehow it works and doesn’t leave an oil stain.
Just get new carpet it won’t cost very much for a room of carpet it seems more sanitary that way.
Amonia. About a cup full in your average carpet cleaner. Don’t worry the smell goes away. Use hot water and go back over with cold water in your cleaner.
even if you find something still cant use it for the whole carpet it will cost a lot but i have used folex from home depot and it kinda worked.it looks like water no color no scent and dont need to scrub.
try it but if i were you i would change the carpet or call a pro.
Rent a steam cleaner & also purchase the defoamer. Then use dawn dish soap with the defoamer & hot water. For really bad tough spots spray with Spot Shot carpet stain remover.
Honestly in a situation like this it’s best to hire a professional cleaner. It will probably cost around $100. I know that sounds like alot but when you let it get to that point of disrepair then there are only a few choices left.
