How do I get a bad pet smell out of a vacuum cleaner?

This vacuum cleaner was used to clean carpets in and around a pet/dog area and now the air that comes out of the front vent stinks bad! I have changed the bag but they don’t make filters for this model anymore. I doubt that the parts are immersible. The smell when I vacuum is keeping me from using it!

  1. A few drops of an essential oil often works. Put it on a scrap of toilet paper and vacuum it up. Pick something strong like lavender or orange. If the filter is made of foam you should be able to rinse it or spray it with vinegar or ammonia, then rinse.

  2. Baking Soda, baking Soda, baking soda. Put it on your carpet and let it set it. Vacuum up and the soda will work it’s magic on all surfaces.

  3. put some baking soda in a new bag and hopefully it will absorb any pet odors still in the venting system of the machine

  4. Wipe it inside and out with ammonia. Clean the filter with ammonia if you can.

    Let it dry.

Wipe again with liquid fabric softener in water.
