I live in a condominium. the guy cleaning the common areas agreed to come to my apartment clean the carpet inside in like 1 hour… It is not his company’s responsibility to clean inside, he’s just doing me a favor on the side.. How much should i pay him? ? ? it’s a small apartment 1 bedroom. will probably take him around 15 minutes. my guess is he is earning like – an hour(?) however it’s a great help for me because my other option is to buy a special carpet vacuum cleaner which can cost 0. I am renting here so do not want to spend that amount plus i have no room to store such a vacuum cleaner. so.. is dollar tip enough ? THANKS.

I would say $ 20.00
$20 would be good.
Don’t think of it as a tip. It would be a tip if it were part of his regular duties, but it’s not. Therefore it is a separate job and you must compensate him fairly. If you compare it to a carpet cleaning company, the industry standard is thirty cents per square foot, so they would charge you over $100. Even if you paid him $25, it would be pretty cheesy. I would say a minimum of $35-40. Don’t forget he has materials cost also.
