Kirby Sentria F-bag style… not even 24 hours old, what should I do?

I have been bitter about the Kirby brand of vacuums. Well, I bought the New Kirby Sentria model yesterday. I wanted to start cleaning a carpeted area in our house (it worked great when going through demo)… so I attached that power head sort of thing with the brush rollers and a belt lift option. Okay, green arrows match up… but nothing is getting sucked up easily. I picked up the little black hairs from our cat that was not stuck or anything… came out without an issue. So I tried the Kirby again, and didn’t pick it up. So then I tipped it onto it’s side and turned it on… the brush rollers were not moving at all.

So I started trying to see how the belt lift works, and it was extremely difficult to even lock the power head thing into place none the less when it is off of the motor I cannot turn the dial to match up the red arrows (a LOT of work… more than what was needed in demo).

So, being that this our vacuum that we paid for and isn’t working after less than 24 hours… what do I do to fix this on my own? I really didn’t mess around with it before hand… I only used the hose attachment for hard wood floors… then wanted to use the power head thing on the carpets. I would love to call Kirby, but they are not open on the weekends. Any ideas or pictures as to how it is supposed to look? The sales rep. said that the one that we have is new out of the box and was only used for our demo since he had sold the other one from the demo before us.

Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated. As I checked the manual AND the DVD. I am thinking it is something simple being that it is BRAND NEW.

  1. I;ve had my Kirby G-3 for 19 years and love it!! I’ve had no problems with it. You have to be doing something wrong. Are you raising the foot lever all the way off the floor before matching up the arrows. And be sure the belt is on correctly. Take your time and go through it step by step.
