Songs From My Sofa #1 – Little Blue Bird

The first one! Cris and I are new to a lot of this- camera panning, video editing, and opening up our apartment to guests, even (significant time spent borrowing a vacuum cleaner from the church, scrubbing every surface, timing the thing just right, etc.). Thanks for being a part of this. We so appreciate your support. LYRICS: “Little Blue Bird” by Grace Pettis (c) 2011; ASCAP, Soonbloomed Songs Would you put another dollar in the tip jar? ‘Cause I got to make it to Birmingham. Ladies and gentlemen, it’s real far And I got to get there tonight. And I know most of you ain’t listening Most of you don’t care who I am. But I got another set that I gotta sing, and I still want to sing it right. Singing little blue bird, he’s an acrobat. Sitting pretty on a telephone wire. People on the telephone chat their chat And he sits on a telephone wire, Little blue bird, Ahh… Little blue bird. Would you hand me another cold beer, man? Don’t care if I have to buy this one. I don’t think I’m making it to Birmingham and I’ve got nowhere to go. Sometimes it’s enough to stand here, Sometimes it’s enough to sing these songs. Sometimes I just want another cold beer, ‘Cause it’s something that feels like home. Little blue bird, he’s an acrobat. Sitting pretty on a telephone wire. Thanks for listening, Isaac! OK, I totally didn’t think of the twitter bird connection. What with trying to virally market this thing with free social networking, you’d think that would have crossed my mind. Oh well.

    See you next Friday!

  2. This was great! I always love hearing the background of a song, especially since I don’t know much about the folk music scene. When I saw the title, I immediately thought of the Twitter bird, who is a little blue bird. I’m sure that’s not where you were thinking of going with the song, but Mr. Tweet flew into my mind.

Looking forward to the next one!

Hey Ida! Thanks for checking it out! Would love to hear your thoughts on any songs you think are interesting. The goal is for everyone online to be as much a part of the audience and the conversation as the 5 or 10 people actually in the room.

I don’t know yet if I’ll be at Kerrville. I applied for the contest again this year, but if I don’t get in I probably should come back to Virginia that week, since it’s the week of my first anniversary. : )

    Take care!

  4. Hey Grace! Stumbled upon this when looking up your song Dancing to send as a link to a guy in St Louis, who absolutely loved it when David and I sang it at a gig there the other week. Thought he might wanna hear the original version. Love that you´re doing this SongsFromMySofa! Your audience are lucky to have you and your creative ideas 🙂 Maybe we´ll see you in Kerrville?! I´m hoping to be able to go down there for the first time. We miss you! Big hugs! /Ida Kristin P.s Love “L Blue Bird”:-)

Do you like that this song ends with an instrumental chorus? How would you end it if you had written it?
