    Heavy Duty but … !, August 3, 2014

Prior to this purchase, I have been an avid fan of the Bissell Healthy Home Vacuum (16N5F). Both of them feature the 9X Multi Cyclonic Cleaning System, air tight HEPA filter and a myriad of similar features. We have several long-haired cats, smokers and need a good, deep cleaning vacuum.

    PROs:
Quick and easy to assemble with just a Phillips screwdriver
Great cord length (approx 27 feet)
Acessories: turbo brush, crevice tool, dusting/upholstery brush and long extension wand will cover virtually any cleaning need.
Cannister: Empties from the bottom and is a decent size.
Bare floor cleaning: you can turn the brush off to use this and save your hardwood or linoleum-type flooring. There are the 7 height adjustment settings.
    Lifetime belt: Wonderful feature !
Cleaning Path: Nice 15 inch path, although it obviously won’t fit in some situations.

    CONS:
QUALITY: For being a near twin to the Healthy Home (purchased about 18 months ago), this vacuum FEELS CHEAP. The legs and handle are plastic (as are those on the Healthy Home) but these just have the feel of a lower quality.

SUCTION: Even at the lowest carpet setting, this PowerClean almost glides over the surface. Yes, it DOES pick up embedded pet hair and “stuff” but it does NOT leave the freshly vacuumed tracks on the carpet as does my old Healthy Home vacuum. (The Healthy Home was a bear to push on the same settings.)

COLLECTION CANISTER: That, too, has a “cheap” feel to it – especially the release latch at the bottom. It is virtually identical to the Healthy Home one except for that cheap feel.

BARE FLOOR CLEANING: Like the Healthy Home vacuum, it will pick up SOME debris. Since the brush is Off, the debris only goes through the opening at the bottom. Sweeping is generally faster.

OVERALL CONCLUSIONS: It certainly has better suction than most vacuums and the HEPA filtration is great for allergies. HOWEVER, I would recommend the Healthy Home FIRST; then this PowerClean.

The 16N59 is a powerful bagless cyclonic action upright vacuum with 15″ wide power brush. It comes in two parts that attach via four supplied screws. Assembly is quick and easy.
It is equipped with an extendable hose, mini turbo brush, small brush, thin nozzle and extension tube. All the accessories fit neatly and securely onboard, and won’t fall off even during vigorous cleaning. The long cord winds around two twist-release hooks in the back of the vac, a pretty standard feature with most uprights, as is the convenient headlight. The power switch and carpet brush switch are located at the top of the handle, a perfect place for them.
A rotating switch on the power brush lets you adjust it for the flooring type (hard surface, various carpet heights)

The first time I used the vacuum I was surprised by how much dust and cat hair it picked up from a carpet that I thought was reasonably clean; the cyclonic action canister is made of clear plastic so you can see all the dust as it comes in, which is quite fun!
The combination of power brush and high power suction is fantastic, way better than any vac I ever owned before; it’s definitely way better than my previous vac, an expensive top-of-the-line Hoover.
This is my first bagless so I was a little concerned about the receptacle emptying process: there was really nothing to worry about, the receptacle detaches at the press of a button, and another button releases the bottom lid — make sure you do that on top of the trash!

The 16N59 is equipped with two filters, including a HEPA filter. Both are extremely easy to replace.
I was a little skeptical about the turbo upholstery brush because it’s “air powered”, which usually results in a useless brush. Not so with this one: although it’s not the most powerful brush, it’s perfectly adequate for its intended function and works great on upholstery.
Overall, operation is somewhat noisy, but it doesn’t strike me as being unusually loud.

I do have a few gripes:
    – although the handle is articulated and folds down, the brush and body of the vac are thick enough that vacuuming under low furniture like beds is impossible
    – there is no suction control, it’s full power all the time. That’s a problem when vacuuming small area rugs, which get sucked up into the carpet brush and jam it, even on the shag setting
    – the brush doesn’t go all the way to the edge (but all other vacs I’ve seen have the same problem)
    – it’s heavy. Not a problem when you’re pushing it around, but probably not something you’d want to be carrying up and down the stairs daily.
I don’t think the gripes are significant enough to ding the 5 stars this otherwise excellent product deserves.

Careful though: this is not the perfect vacuum for everyone. For instance, I would hate to use it on carpeted stairs. But if you have a single floor apartment or house, it will perform admirably on carpets and hard flooring. Its performance with pet hair on carpets is remarkable, and the bagless system is very convenient.

    Very highly recommended

Easy to assemble, powerful! 18 inches, August 24, 2012

Over the years I have assembled countless vacuum cleaners, so much so that I get a knot in my stomach thinking about it! So it was a VERY pleasant surprise to discover this only used four screws … Two to attach the handle, and two to hold the back where you coil the cord. Other than that, you simply add the attachments!

A couple of weeks ago, we added a second family to our household, and we now have THREE chihuahuas and TWO cats roaming our house. I knew my small floor vacuum would never be up to the task, so I was happy to try out this vacuum through the Vine program.

After assembling it, I vacuumed the hallway, a major source of pet traffic! Imagine my shock when it picked up enough pet hair in this short area to fill the cup. It also worked well picking up at litter off the bare floor. Very powerful. Because of this, it is heavier than I am used to, but it steers easily. In fact, it picked up well from the sides as well as the front, minimizing my use of the crevice tool.

I popped off the cup and carried it out to the trash. It came off easily, and fully emptied into the trash, I didn’t have to dig out the hair as I have had to do in earlier bagless vacuums. I just opened it over the trash, not a single problem or mess. It also popped back into place easily. It was one of the smoothest and easiest I had experienced, and it renewed my faith in bagless systems.

    Features I already like:
The hand held brush for the furniture
The power and brush controls on the handle
The hepa filter (I am allergic to cats, so this permits me to vacuum)
The fact that everything except the hepa filter can be washed and doesn’t need to be replaced
Having the belt be lifetime (I hate changing belts)

Obviously it is still new, and we will have to see how it holds up over time, but I am really loving it!
