Tips for my Dyson?

I bought into the whole hype about Dyson vacuum cleaners and got one. I’ve had it for about a year and a half. It’s nifty and all…but it totally IS losing suction unlike they claim. I know there is that one filter you’ve got to wash every once and a while, and to dump out the "tank" after using it…but I can tell that it’s just not as powerful as it used to be.

Is there anything else I’m supposed to do to maintain it? I have no idea where the manual is.

Also, my cats make a mess when they jump out of their litter box, litter goes everywhere. When I try to vacuum it it shoots the littler back at my legs. Feels like I’m in a sand storm. What could be causing that?

  1. I really wanted to answer this for you!! But after reading all the answers first! They said every thing that I was going to!! You have some good answers on here!! I PRAY THAT ONE OR ALL OF THEN HELP YOU!! HOPE YOU HAVE A WONDER FULL DAY!!!!!!!!!!

  2. I bet anything you need to clean the roller brush on the bottom of the machine.

Unplug it, turn it over, and voila, tons of hair and debris that aren’t allowing the vacuum to do its job.

It’ll take scissors and a lot of picking and pulling, but get all that out.

Your Dyson will be good as new.

  3. I don’t know about dyson vacuums in particular, but there are some things you can do to vacuums in general to help them work better:

*** Remove debris from vacuum brush & hoses. Sometimes things like tissues get stuck in the hoses. Also, if you have a brush head that spins, I guarantee that eventually it will get hair and strings/threads tangled in its bristles and wrapped around it. You can manually remove these by hand or with a tweezers.

*** On a spinning brush head, there’s a belt that holds it in place. This gets stretched out, making the brush spin less forecefully or not at all. It should be replaced about once per year. It’s fairly easy to do yourself.

Not sure if this answers your question for your particular vac, but I’ve fixed these things on multiple vacuum cleaners for friends and family, and it always makes a huge difference.

(PS I know you said you checked it, but for some other people out there who might not know, if the bag or tank gets fairly full, the suction capacity goes down.)

  4. there’s 2 filters – the one you’re talking about that you can clean(I clean mine everytime), and also a hepa filter(replace every year), usually under a lid that has vents on it. With these 2 clean it should suck like new. The dyson is a direct drive motor and shouldn’t lose power if it’s not clogged.
