Tips to keep in-ground pool looking nice?

Our house was built in the 1960s, and has the coolest in-ground pool. I loved the pools back then, they were really big and made to last.

It’s still running strong. We clean it, do all the chemicals just right, and have a pool guy that comes once a week to vacuum and do all the professional stuff.

The water is always absolutely crystal clear. But the paint job on this thing just will not stay nice. We drain the pool and repaint it every other winter with pool paint, according to the instructions, and usually put 2 coats on it. But the paint job still constantly flakes and cracks, and develops light stains at the end of each summer.

We’ve been told that it will be about ,000 to acid wash the pool, and have it painted and coated professionally. But it seems to me that that is a ridiculous expense for such a cut-and-dry procedure, and hard to justify since this is such an old pool. There has to be a cheaper do-it-yourself option.

We’re just out of ideas. Any suggestions on better pool paint products, better options, or things we can do on a day-to-day basis to make the paint job last longer?

Thanks.

  1. i own a pool company.do not paint your pool or as you see what happens.better to take all that old paint off and have it re plastered if it looks that bad 11,000.00 dollars to acid wash and paint? dont fall for that.the one who told you that will steal you blind. you can get a good plaster job for 5,000.00 all day long

  2. oh my … id hire a sand plaster and get rid of the 50 years of paint build up… then get it replastered….
