What is the point of having hepa filtration on a bagless vacuum?

…if when you empty the cup the dust and hair goes right back into the air? I didn’t think about it before buying the vacuum, but everytime I dump the cup I have a huge allergy attack and sneeze so much that I can’t breathe. I actually have to tale a benedryl before I Vacuum. Am I doing something wrong, here? It seems so simple but I have never heard anyone have this problem.

  1. You’re not doing anything wrong — dust & debris flying everywhere when emptying the cups was a common complaint about bagless units when we were researching new vacs a few years back. If your unit’s within the return period, I’d take it back. If your heart’s set on a bagless, you might want to look for a vacuum repair shop in your area. They usually sell vacuums as well, and you might be able to test some models to see how the dust cups work, or at least get input as to which are least likely to "spray" when you pour them out.

I ended up grabbing a Eureka on whim at Wal-Mart, and I guess that I lucked out. Everything in the cup seems to clump together, and it pours out with decent weight (no *visible* dust or hair flying up, even when my trash can’s nearly full )
