When staying at a motel, hotel or other place……?

If your children make a big mess out of something all over the carpet and grind it into said carpet do you…

a. at least inform the front desk of said mess and offer a few extra dollars for clean up.

b. are to embarrassed to say something to the front desk but feel bad for having other people clean up that much of a mess from your children and so you leave a tip for the housekeeping.

c. you ask housekeeping or the front desk to borrow a vacuum cleaner to clean up your own mess.

d. other

I’m asking this because this weekend i had to do housekeeping in a room that had one HUGE mess on the floor of smashed up animal crackers and other various things ALL over the floor. No tip was left, no one said anything about it, etc.
stay@home….it’s people like you that housekeepers don’t mind not getting a tip from 🙂

  1. I treat any place I am staying in like our own home pretty much so I’d probably ask to borrow the vacumn cleaner. I am the one that collects up all the wet towels and puts them in one bathroom, usually in the tub so none are left on the beds. I wipe down the counter or table where we eat and I also usually put all the trash up front.

But there are those like Mamacita who think that ‘kids being kids’ include rudeness and misbehavior.

  2. i would clean it as best i could, but wouldn’t worry about it too much. i mean if it was a liquid that could stain i would definitely do everything i could to keep it from staining, but if it was just crumbs i wouldn’t do much about it. i mean if i was staying in a hotel that would mean i was probably traveling in which case i would probably be too tired to care. aren’t the housekeepers supposed to vacuum and stuff anyways?? i would leave a little more of a tip, though. just a dollar or two.

  3. I’m the kind to clean up as much as possible before I leave plus leave a tip.

If my daughter made a huge mess, i’d clean up as much as possible and leave an "extra mess" tip

  4. I’d clean it up with the help of said children. Then I’d leave an extra tip for the rest.

  5. I would clean it up the best I could short of borrowing a vacuum (I would expect any decent hotel would say don’t worry about it) and leave a nice tip.

  6. My mom would attempt to clean it with a bit of water and a towel, then leave a couple extra dollars than usual for the tip.

  7. d other.
i will put a newspaper over it or a chair. My kids are kids and they make big messes, but you know what? my kids are allowed! i let them know that this is why the cleaning lady gets paid to work there and she gets paid. my kids are only kids once and they may do what makes them happy.

  8. oh amber i will be honest and say i have never left left a tip for a maid. i actually didnt know you were supposed to leave a tip. i will say that i never have left a mess either. im one of those people who clean my room before the maid comes. i dont want the maids to think im dirty or messy or anything else.
if i ever come into the situation in the future i think i will let the front desk know that im sorry my kids were not on their best behavior and tip for such events.
