Expensive, but the real deal, February 10, 2012

This retrofit HEPA filter is so costly that a 3rd- party industry has sprung up (eg the Filtrete), and even Miele itself offers a cheaper version.

However, at this point this seems to be the only real deal, a part which upgrades your vacuum to true HEPA standard. It perfectly fits in my Carina vacuum and seals in with a rubber gasket.

Of all the anti- allergen efforts I made, this was the most immediately measureable: No sneezing when I turn the vacuum on; in fact I find it produces a pleasant sweet-ish (for lack of a better word) scent. Would/will buy again in a heartbeat; price aside this is a 5-star part.

This review is from: Miele SF-HA 50 Active HEPA filter for Models S4000, S5000, S6000, & S8000 (Misc.)
My Miele vacuum started making a high pitched whining noise not that long ago after being on for a few minutes. I tried changing the bag but that didn’t help. I was about to call customer service, but I tried changing the HEPA filter first, and that got rid of the whine. The old filter didn’t appear “worn out” at all, but had been around that 6 month mark of needing to be changed. My husband reset the filter light and didn’t tell me!

BTW: If you reset the filter light, it will NOT reset the time again if it isn’t already lit up. So you’ll have to keep track of how long it’s been since you changed the filter if you didn’t reset the light when you changed it. Thankfully, Amazon knows exactly when I purchased it 😉
