OK so here is the deal, i need some tips on how to strip off the old layer of wax and then apply the new layer of wax on my hardwood floors. My house is built around 2001 so the floors aren’t that old. I have used orange glo, SC johnson one step no buff wax, and etc but they have made my floor look 10x worst than before.
My question for you professionals are how do i remove the old wax build up from my hardwood floors and then apply a new coat of wax. I have a wet/dry vacuum and i don’t mind doing a lot of hard work. I want to know which hardwood floor stripper is good and how do i use it. I want to know which floor wax is good and how do i use it. I don’t have an automatic buffer or etc so tell me how to apply the wax and buff it after wards. I don’t want to walk into Lowe’s and ask them for help because they will extort me to the customer service asking me to schedule a Visit with the stupid contractors. So i really need some help right now…
How do i remove the wax using a floor stripper, how do i apply the wax, and how do i buff it.
Thank You very much and please help me, i googled everything and all the results are not going to work or i tried it.
IDK, i remembered that when i went to look at my house, like while it was still on sale, i remembered seeing someone with some sc johnson paste wax… he was just applying it to the floor and when i bought the house, the floors look very nice, Like my hardwood floors used to look like a waxed, sealed floor, and right now it is all foggy and white. Is that going to help you guys? also sanding isn’t an option for me.
i just need to know is it possible to strip the wax off using a hardwood floor stripper? is there even anything that can strip the wax off hardwood floors? if so, can you guys give me some brand names? I was thinking of re waxing it with sc johnson paste wax after i strip the old wax of the hardwood floors. Then i was planning on using a electronic car buffer to buff my floors… Can someone please help me. google isn’t so i need some real answers from experience flooring companies.
Thank You
ALSO i dont need any links that link me to buy products or anything. unless it is the wax of floor stripper compound.
Rent a floor buffer. Get a white buffing pad and a 220 grit sanding screen. Buff the floor with this, vacuum, then wipe down with mineral spirits. Then apply a coating. If you are not experienced with a regular floor buffer, I would suggest using a square buffer. They rent them at Home Depot.
Most likely your floor were finished with polyurethane. You do not wax polyurethane. It is a clear plastic coating. Waxing it would be the same as waxing your window. It would get all ugly and smeared.
You want to remove the wax then from here on in clean with vinegar.
To remove the wax you need to use ammonia. It will take a while for the ammonia to dissolve the wax and much rubbing and rinsing. When your are done the floors will be wonderfully shiny. Do not put any wax down just continue to clean in the future with the vinegar.
If on the off chance that your floors are varnished and not polurathaned you need to call a professional in 2 times a year with the proper wax and buffers. It costs about $90.00 for him to come in and shine the floors.
Ask a friendly Janitor, what kind of " Polish" they use, seriously,. I’m sure they would be more than happy to tell you. and where you can get it. but one thing for sure, after you strip the wax off, be sure to rinse the floor very well, with fresh clean water to get all the stripper off, because if you leave stripper on and then put wax/polish over that, the stripper will eat away the wax 🙂
and be prepared to put at least 5 coats of polish down, which means your probably going to have to buy at least a gallon, for a freshly stripped floor, two or three coats is just not going to do it,
have fun 🙂
If it was once shiny, it wasn t a wax to begin with. Waxed hardwood floors are never shiny, only urethane or poly urethane hard wood flooring is shiny.
The products you ve applied is what causing the dullness. Hartco puts out a good stripper that will take of the wax build up.
After that you may have to have the flooring screened and a urethane reapplied.
If your handy you can do this yourself or have it done which runs in the 3$ a s/f range ( +- in your area)
But take into account your time and rental cost of a machine and you may want to have a pro do it.
