More powerful than other hand vacs and handier than a shop vac., September 8, 2014

This is one of the best and longest lasting vacuums we’ve ever owned, and we are talking two households over 60 years. We’ve had the Kenmore version of it for over 20 years, and though others complain of constantly torn bags, we’ve been using the original one ever since the vac was new, and only now has it developed a small hole. The cord wrap is handy and keeps things controlled while the machine is tucked under my workbench; yet I can easily strip off cord as needed when cleaning up a garage or bench mess, and then readily rewrap it when finished. I don’t have the wand extensions and carpet head, but the other 3 accessories easily store onboard the machine, and the short hose stays connected as a loop from front to the long nozzle stored in the rear port.

Its two speeds are nice, but the one annoyance is the switch on top is too easily bumped, accidentally tuning the rig on/off or changing speeds. I suppose it could be better placed or have a little more resistance to accidental movements. On the other hand, the same switch is convenient when deliberately using it, so take that as you will. Even though the case is plastic, and the wife and I grew up with heavy metal machines, only the switch escutcheon has ever broken on this particular unit. Apparently the switch cover is no longer made for our Kenmore DynoMite so we’ve never tried replacing it (I’ll check the Ironman parts availability though, now that I know they’re the same machine).

This is a great all-around hand vac, and more powerful than most. In my garage/shop it is certainly a lot handier under the workbench than the big shop-vac in the corner.

This is my 3rd Oreck Vacuum and I love it more than the others simply because it has the best suction. It rolls very easy on hardwood, tile and carpet. The only issue I see is the switch is in a place that I can shut off without meaning to. Other than that I give it a 100% satisfied! Great product!
